Immediately consult the local police station’s Public Safety Division and inform them that you have found a Japanese sword and wish to file a report.
They will guide you through the process of submitting a “Firearms and Swords Discovery Report.
” Later, you will need to visit the police station to submit the report, at which point you will receive a “Sword Discovery Report Receipt Certificate.”
Please note that this is a temporary carrying permit, not a firearms and swords registration certificate. After receiving the certificate, you must submit a “Registration Application Form” to the local Board of Education within 20 days.
The form can be found on the website of your local Board of Education.
Once you complete this process, you will be issued a “Firearms and Swords Registration Certificate,” which will allow you to legally own or inherit the sword.
